GEMMA SYKES

Gemma Sykes is a London-based casting director with over 25 years of experience across film, television, and commercials.

Gemma began her career working alongside two of the UK’s most respected casting directors — Sarah Crowe and then Dan Hubbard — where she honed her instinct for talent, knowledge base and skillset.

In 2017, she launched Gemma Sykes Casting, building a diverse slate of critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects across genres and formats.

Her credits include Captain Phillips, Jason Bourne, Downton Abbey (Season 4), the Oscar-winning short The Phone Call, Alex Garland’s FX series DEVS, and New Regency’s His House, directed by BAFTA-winner Remi Weekes. More recently, she cast the hit Netflix horror Choose or Die, starring Asa Butterfield, Eddie Marsan and Iola Evans and Comedy feature Lady, hotly tipped at the Cannes 2025 market.

In addition to longform work, Gemma has brought her eye for casting to numerous high-end advertising campaigns for global brands.

After a short pause to start a family (recently welcoming her son into the world!), she returns newly energised and focused — with a particular interest in scripted series and character-driven film and tv projects. She is especially excited to collaborate with directors, producers and writers whose work is bold, emotionally intelligent, and culturally relevant.
